Following the speech of Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas at the second Palestinian Ambassadors Conference held in the Turkish city of Istanbul, Ramallah Palestine Satellite Channel Television in Arabic conducts interviews with Palestinian officials to comment on the speech.
At 0825 GMT, Palestine TV anchorwoman Nisrin Nasir conducts a live interview, in the studio, with Fatah Spokesman Ahmad Assaf. Assaf begins by saying that the speech of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan reflected Turkey's support for the "Palestinian right" to demand that the UNSC declare the establishment of the "Palestinian State."
Assaf goes on to say: "Israel is terrified of the Palestinian movement at all levels. It is terrified of the international support for the Palestinian cause, especially recently." Assaf adds: "Israel is trying to overcome the Palestinian movement by many means. First, by concocting an internal crisis by the military escalation we have witnessed in the Gaza Strip and at sea, like we have seen with the Al-Karamah Fleet; through its internal policies in the West Bank, by confiscating land and judaizing Jerusalem and so on; and by attempting to isolate the Palestinian movement and bring it down by claiming it is a unilateral movement."
At 0828 GMT, Palestine TV correspondent Muhammad al-Sanuri conducts in Istanbul a live interview with Abdallah Abdallah, PLO representative to Lebanon, and Palestinian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Dr Anwar Al-Agha.. Abdallah praises the efforts of Abbas to garner international support for the establishment of a Palestinian state. Abdallah hails the Turkish support for the "Palestinian cause." Abdallah says that the PNA is keen to achieve reconciliation and therefore rejects the claims that heading to the United Nations is a futile unilateral act.
Abdallah says: "This conference will have a siginificant impact on the international evaluation of the Palestinian movement and its seriousness and righteousness." Al-Agha says that all efforts should be unified in order to take a strong stance regarding the announcement of the Palestinian State. At 0853 GMT, Palestine TV anchorwoman Nisrin Nasir conducts an interview over telephone with Yasir al-Ammuri, professor of international law at the Bir Zayt University.
Al-Ammuri says: "The PNA and the Palestinian people have the right to battle so as to put an end to the occupation by all legal means. Among these legal means and as stipulated by the international law and legitimacy, the right to go to the United Nations to apply for a full membership or taking the responsibility of removing the occupation because the occupation is an illegal act and a continuing war crime." At 0902 GMT, Palestine TV correspondent Muhammad al-Sanuri conducts in Istanbul a live interview with Palestinian Ambassador to France Hayil al-Fahum. Al-Fahum praises the Palestinian movement for declaring the Palestinian State by saying: "This action is unprecedented because this is the first time that the Palestinian side takes the initiative and takes action while the other side - the United States and Israel - reacts."
At 0913 GMT, Palestine TV anchorwoman Nisrin Nasir conducts an interview over telephone with Jamil Shihadah, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, who says that the meeting is necessary and crucial for unifying the Palestinian diplomatic efforts all over the world.
