Kyrgyz expert says some politicians want to restore presidential system

Some politicians, including those who intend to stand for election, are interested in restoring the presidential form of government, political scientist Nur Omarov believes. "Some politicians are interested in preserving the current quasi-parliamentary form of government and others in restoring the presidential republic where the head of state has the powers of the current prime minister," Nur Omarov told a news conference on Wednesday. In his view, the desire to change the form of government and to return to the presidential system makes many candidates run for president. Another reason is the opportunity to gain material and political dividends. "Candidates can get dividends, both political and economic dividends, at the election. That is why there will be more of them (candidates - KyrTag). So far, 24 candidates have filed applications. The process will continue until 16 August," the expert forecast. You might recall that Kyrgyzstan's presidential election is scheduled for 30 October. Source: KyrTAg, Bishkek, in Russian 0717 gmt 27 Jul 11
